Bend wide ribbons (which hold their shape) into a geometric medley, or repeat one shape for a bold statement. Affix with double-sided tape, hiding staples with more loops of ribbon.

Loop-the-Loop

For a concentric design, make small circles, then larger ones, working from the spool and holding the ribbon at the bottom.

Staple at bottom (use a mini stapler if a larger one won't fit); trim end of ribbon.

For teardrops, hold ribbon in middle, and loop to either side; staple in middle; trim.

Cascading Curls

Run a scissor blade down ribbon, from middle to ends, varying the tension for tight or loose curls. Gather ribbons; cinch in the middle with a length of thinner ribbon. Affix with a hot-glue gun.

Steps:

1)Begin by cutting a 12 inch (30.5cm) length of curling ribbon.

2)Examine the ribbon. Notice the original curl of the ribbon and which is the shiny and

which is the dull side.

3)Grasp the ribbon at one end between the forefinger and the thumb; have the dull side

facing the ground.

4)Open the scissors with other hand and hold the scissors upwards (contrary to what you

normally do with scissors) - have the blade facing upwards, open and wrap your fingers

around the middle of the blades and handles with thumb along one blade edge.

5)Press blade firmly against the dull underside of the ribbon with the thumb.

6)Pull the ribbon across scissor blade while continuing to press with the thumb.

7)Release the ribbon from the scissor blade and the curling ribbon will spiral up.

Tips:

a) If the ribbon did not curl properly the first time, repeat procedure making sure to use the

scissor blade on the same side to strengthen the curl.

b) Curl multiple pieces of curling ribbon and attach together with a piece of wire in the middle

and affix to any gift package.

c) It helps to pay close attention when having your gifts wrapped professionally at Christmas

time;watch the method used by the wrappers to curl the ribbon.

d) Pressing harder on one edge of the ribbon as you pull it across the scissors will curl it better

and tighter.

Instructions: When Dee had self-contained special needs children, one of their favorite activities was coloring Easter eggs. For this they had at least 2 hard boiled eggs per child. Each child had a small plate of water and several squares of tissue paper, about 1" x 1".
The child dampens the egg and then places many different color squares of tissue paper over the egg, overlapping and moistening as they go. When the egg is completely covered with the tissue paper squares, set it aside for a few minutes. The longer is sits the more color it absorbs; just don't let it dry. After the desired amount of time, remove the tissue paper and you have beautifully decorated eggs.
Really pretty, but be careful to cover cloths and work surfaces before beginning. Everyone's hands will get a little stained but some warm water and soap as soon as possible after finishing works wonders. Most if not all will come right off.
From Sherri - I tried this with some tissue paper I had on hand and the color did not bleed onto the eggs. Perhaps crepe paper would work better or make sure you have a tissue paper that will bleed!

Mini roses from dollar store crepe paper streamers

Gonna show you how to make these, because there's still enough time before Valentine's day, and also Heather from Dollar Store Crafts is having a link party and all you need to make these is crepe paper streamers that the Dollar Store sells in packs of two. No glue, no tape, none of that nonsense, just crepe paper and opposable thumbs.

When I was about ten years old, we had our village's first summer festival, where one girl from the local primary school got to be the carnival queen. I didn't go up to audition for the role, because I'm kind of phobic of that sort of thing, in fact there were only a handful of girls in our school that were the right age to apply. My classmate Nyree won the job and her family set about preparing costumes and decorations for the event. She was going to be driven down the highstreet on the bonnet of a car in a hunormous dress. We decorated the car ALL OVER with roses that all the girls spent hours twisting out of lengths of white and pink bog roll! Fantastic! I wish I had a photo to show you!

I thought it would be cool to try and make those roses again, but this time with dollar store crepe paper, so that I could also do stems and leaves and hopefully manage the whole thing without any need for glue or fiddling about cutting shapes like most paper flowers require.

At the Dollar Tree by us, you can get two rolls of crepe paper streamers in a bag for, you guessed it, a dollar. I picked up red, white, pink, yellow and green. Those seemed like rose kinda colours.

I thought about doing a photo tutorial for this, but it wouldn't be as straightforward as if I just shot a video of me making one for you. Unfortunately as video tutorials go, this one is a little chaotic. It's full of five year old, and narrated by croaky the frogwoman (I lost my voice over the weekend) Anywhoo, once you get past being bossed around by my older daughter (who clearly is better suited to giving tutorials than I am) and can deal with the fact that my three year old announces an ant infiltration of our kitchen in the middle of it, hopefully you'll be able to see how I make these roses. Just for Heather, here's a pic of some in a Dollar Store salt shaker ;) They really are quite teeny. I wonder if you can get wider crepe paper streamers from anywhere to make full size roses.

Also, they are a really good way of recycling torn up wrapping paper. A ripped strip of wrapping paper can be twisted into a rose really quickly and used to decorate another gift.
